Hamburg is home of seven different Christmas markets (Weinhnachtsmarkt in Hamburg), the most important is the historic Christmas market “Weinhnachtsmark auf dem Rathausmarkt”, held in the town hall square. It has a large number of stalls with Christmas products and many attractions and games for children. Opening from 27 Nov to 23 Dec from 11:00 – 21:00

Very close to this is the Jungfernstieg market on the famous avenue under the same name, located on the banks of the Alster River. This Christmas market  focuses on posh food and fancy gifts. You will find from leather shoes for the winter to baked apples. Those looking to avoid the crowd choose the smaller Fleetinsel market by the water, where fairy lights twinkle on antique sailing boats giving it a very romantic atmosphere.

3. Budapest, Hungary
November 10th 2017 – January 1st 2018

Vorosmarty and St Stephen’s Square

Christmas Market of the Basilica of Saint Stephen “Adventi Ünnep to Bazilikánál“. This Christmas market, one of the most beautiful in Budapest, takes place in the square of San Esteban “Szent István tér” in front of the basilica of the same name. In the center of the market there is a large Christmas tree, and a large skating rink. Every night the basilica is illuminated with colourful lights, and vendors of special Christmas gifts are setting up their stands in the heart of the city. Among the piles of sweet Hungarian pastries are crocheted items, traditional fur hats and gloves, pressed-flower jewellery, “good-luck” garden pixies and handmade chocolates and honey cakes.

The attraction of this year is the 3D projection in the basilica that can be seen from all corners of the square with 3D glasses. “The Advent Fair at the Basilica” is considered one of the must-see Christmas events in Europe. Opening from Nov 24 to Jan 1st.

Another two interesting Christmas markets are:

Christmas Market in Vörösmarty Square “Budapesti Adventi-és Kárácsonyi Vásáron”. It stands out for the presence of more than a hundred wooden stands with great gastronomy: fresh hungarian bread (lángos), grilled sausage (kolbász), grilled meats (pecsenye), Christmas cakes with poppy seeds, nuts and raisins (bejgli), chocolates filled with marzipan, fruit jelly or vanilla cream to hang on the tree (szalon cukor), strudel hungarian (retes) .. among others. Opening on Nov 10-Dec 31.

Christmas Market in the City Hall Park of New Pest (Újpest) “Advent Budapesten – Téli Fesztivál to Városháza Parkban” formed by craftsmen and gastronomy banks of high quality Hungarian products. Opening on Nov 17-Dec 27.

4. Prague, Czech Republic
December 2nd 2017 – January 6th 2018

The largest Christmas market in Prague’s Old Town Square, “Vánoční trhy Staroměstské náměstí“, it has a stage-set nativity scene, a huge tree and daily performances by folk bands and choirs. Eat klobasa (Polish sausage) or trdelnik, a hot, sugar-coated pastry or catch an evening concert in one of the churches of the city, such as St Salvator, St Clement’s Cathedral or St George’s Basilica.
