Gastronomic routes along the Basque country

The Basque Country is one of the most beautiful region of Spain and one of the most important in relation to gastronomic and wine culture. With our new program “5 Senses – Wonders of Northern Spain” you will go along the basque coast enjoying the best routes and the most beautiful highlights of this region.

 

You can enjoy gastronomic routes, touristic visits to impressive sites likes The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Biarritz or Laguardia, finalizing the itinerary discovering the Wineries of Marqués de Riscal in Álava.

The Basque cuisine is known for its pintxos and is famous nationally as well as internationally and is a delicious mix between the traditional gastronomy and the avant-garde cuisine. It is also, together with Barcelona, the region of Spain with more restaurants which have a “Michelin Star”.

The pintxos are its most popular specialty, always accompanied with a glass of Txacoli, the local wine, but its local dishes par excellence are Porrusalda, Marmitako and the Bacalao al Pilpil (Cod Fish).

Our program “Wonders of Northern Spain” begins in Bilbao where, besides discover this avant-garde and modern city, you can enjoy the basque gastronomy. Walk along the city while you enjoy a glass of Txacoli and taste some pintxos in the Old Town, The New Square or la Gran Via of Bilbao.

You also discover among others cities, San Sebastian, the capital of pintxos. Named European Capital of Culture in 2016, is a city with a big technological and cultural development, and one of the most beautiful in the region. You can discover its beaches and gardens, its former establishments at the same time that you can enjoy good gastronomy. The Gross Neighborhood, the Zurriola Avenue, the old town are some or all the sites where you can taste the basque cuisine and enjoy its amazing lifestyle.

But the Basque Country is not only pintxos. It has one of the most modern and innovative cuisine of Spain. Among its many world-renowned chefs have four restaurants with 3 Michelin stars. They are: Juan Mari Arzak (Restaurante Arzak), Martín Berasategui (Berasategui Restaurant), Pedro Subijana (Restaurant Akelarre) and Eneko Atxa (Restaurant Azurmendi).
